Here's how I did it:
Step 1: Put on some Christmas music to really get in the mood. Come on turn it up really loud, give your neighbors something to talk about.
Step 2: Gather some cardboard to use as the base of your tags, here's what I started with:
Step 3: Cut into tag shape. I used my sizzix machine but I encourage you to use whatever you have, even if it's doing it free hand.
Step 4: Cover 'back' side with white paper (or some other light color, this is where you'll write to/from) & cover the 'front' side with gold paper.
Step 5: Paint the edges with gesso. Don't be afraid to be a little sloppy, it looks like snow! This will cover up the raw cardboard so no one will know you made their tag out of a bath mat box, or whatever you use. It also helps hide uneven edges, especially helpful if you cut them out free hand. (and yes, I held the paintbrush in my mouth to take this picture)
Step 6: Ink the back (white) edges with a dark ink and add some glitter if you'd like.
Step 7: Cut out a fence shape (I used the sizzix again) trim to fit your tag and decorate with some diamond dust across the top edges. Snow!
Step 8: Cut out a christmas tree shape and decorate it with any festive looking things you have, I used some ribbon and gold stickles. Go ahead and glue it on to your tag but leave the trunk so it can be lifted up.
Step 9: Lift up tree trunk and paint on a thick 'hill' of gesso, stick tree trunk back down into the gesso and add the fence.
Step 10: Add an eyelet and you're all done!
Peace & love.
